Today Was Fun; Let’s Do it Again!
Day 67, Grand Asia 2017
Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 – At Sea
Today is the last day I will come to you from the future. I am 19 hours ahead of the Central Time zone, which has allowed me considerable latitude in when I write and publish blog posts while staying on schedule.
Tonight at midnight we will set our clocks back 24 hours. Which means that tomorrow will be today – another Thursday, Dec. 7. The only difference in my blog timeline is that it will be Day 68, while today is Day 67. And then you will be in my future. All I can say is thank goodness my iPhone clock can tell me what time it is at home.
A group of us helped Claudia celebrate her birthday today during happy hour in the Crow’s Nest. We might celebrate with her again tomorrow on shore in Pago Pago. We much debated whether with a double birthday she is turning two years older. Bob also celebrated his birthday, because when he should have celebrated on Oct. 9, we crossed the International Date Line and totally skipped that day, going from the 8th to the 10th. We all agree he doesn’t have to be a year older.
A new guest chef has joined the cruise. Chef Naomi Kakiuchi is from Seattle and is demonstrating dishes from some of the islands we are visiting. Today she taught us to make a Fijian curry papaya salad, and I had it for dinner tonight. It was so good that I have signed up for a special dinner she is directing in the Pinnacle Grill in a couple of days.
The ship is refusing to let us easily ignore the coming end to our cruise. A representative of the luggage-shipping department came on board in Suva, and the lines to meet with her are long. Passengers in the pricier stateroom categories are granted free shipping to and from the ship, and the rest of us can pay to ship our bags. I shipped one bag here and will probably ship two back home. One of our gala gifts was a roll-on suitcase, and shipping is cheaper than paying the airlines for the extra bag.
I still haven’t figured out how to get the umbrellas home that I bought in Japan. I’ll meet with Sarah and see what she suggests.
On our world cruise a lady had a large navigation chart she had bought and was wondering how to get it home. I know she was going to visit the photo department to see if they had any shipping tubes they would give her. I don’t know the result of her inquiry as I missed her at the last dinner on board.
Good idea. I will ask.
